4th Annual Moonshiners PPG/PPC Fly-In
I’m proud to announce the 4th Annual “Moonshiners” Powered Para Glider event for 2020 at Johnson County Airport (6a4) located in beautiful Mountain City, Tennessee.
The local community and I all had so much fun last year with the great turn out for some scenic mountain flying that we are inviting everyone back to do it again this year.
For those that haven’t been here before, we boast breathtaking mountainous views, friendly locals, interesting side amenities and a supporting Fixed Base Operator. Search the numerous YouTube videos from previous events to get the feel of what Mountain flying is all about. This general aviation airport is perfect for PPG/PPC operations with plenty of camping sites, potable water, and wastewater dump on-site. During periods when flying is not conducive there are many local interests to occupy the time such as our fantastic wilderness trail system known as Doe Mountain Recreation area for a great day of riding! (They will even rent you a ride) Shady Valley and “The Snake” for those that bring motorcycles and Watauga Lake activities on the West side of the County that rent boats and jet skies also. Numerous local shops and restaurants owned and managed by some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.
With both asphalt and grass runways available for takeoffs and landings, this year there will be some more fireworks for Saturday night entertainment, food, and beverage service at the Airport, 100LL aviation fuel, and 2 stroke oil available in the FBO office. The date of this fly-in will coincide with the “Tater Hill” free fly competition that is located only a few miles up the road for those that want to visit the cliff jumpers during the daytime. An FAA Notam will be implemented for safety concerns that alert general aviation aircraft of your presence in the area. The beginning of August usually has proven to be the best weather conditions around here but just in case there are two large hangars for equipment storage and shelter during the rare inclement weather. Please share this announcement with all your buddies to make this event another gathering to remember.
For liability reasons, there will be no charge for event participation. Camping on the property is $20.00 per night for each pilot and for those that just want to park your equipment trailer on-site or utilize the Airport for the fly-in, there will be a $10.00 per day ramp fee.
